Reflecting God in Our Giving

In the Bible, God has shown himself to be a giving God. He is both faithful to His people and overwhelmingly generous; not stopping short of giving His own Son (John 3:16). Because He has been so lavish with us, we live to reflect our Father in the way that we give.

For God’s people, the point of giving has never been ‘paying God off’ but rather thanksgiving – recognizing that He has given (and will always give) the absolute maximum to those who love Him.

God underlines to us as His people that our material debt to Him is irreparable, yet he is eternally generous towards us! As we grasp such truth, we can’t help but be motivated to sow the best of our income in thanks towards Him.

Ultimately, the issue of giving is an issue of worship. Jesus tells us that where our heart goes our money follows. If we are Christians, we give the first priority in our finances – as in all things – to glorifying God; showing our thanks, love, commitment to and faith in Him.
